Reiko Uchytil Cunningham
Reiko is a second generation potter, studying under her mother and father Miky and Steve Cunningham. She graduated with a B.A in Psychology, B.A. In Health and Human Physiology and a minor in Dance from the University of Iowa. She has always loved clay, and began her career in 2013 as a potter at The Des Moines Art Festival. She uses the techniques of sgraffito and mishima in both porcelain and b-clay bodies.
Her passion for these techniques lies in her love for black and white mixed with a contrast or pop of color. You'll notice hints of color in her sgraffito work and her mishima pieces are a contrast of colors and textures. She is inspired by the North American prairie, you can see rabbits and coneflowers, as well as birds and floral patterns incorporated in all of her pieces.
