Columbia, Missouri

"I like stylized carving because it provides the opportunity to show both the beauty of birds and woods," says Carl Korschgen. He is a research biologist with a doctorate in wildlife biology. Carl has studied birds in Maine, Missouri, and all along the Mississippi River. He is influenced by this unique knowledge, and his sculpture emphasizes the lines and attitudes of birds in relaxed poses. Most of Carl's sculptures are created from native hardwoods such as butternut, walnut and cherry. His sculptures are finely sanded and finished with a low-luster varnish to enhance the grain of the wood.
